About The FJ

The FJ cruiser has been built by Toyota subsidiary Hino Motors in Hamura, Japan since 2006. The HINO brand, was chosen to represent the Toyota Group in the global market for heavy-duty trucks and buses. They also produce the popular sport-utility vehicle, the Land Cruiser Prado; the FJ Cruiser; Dyna trucks; and other Toyota commercial vehicles.

 

Last orders for the Toyota FJ Cruiser in the USA will be due in June 2014. It originally debuted in 2006 as a 2007 model. For the first couple of years, the FJ Cruiser enjoyed great sales in North America with over 100,000 units moved between the U.S. and Canada.

 

The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a resale value rarity. It has claimed the top spot in this category two years in a row for 2013 & 2014. See www.kbb.com for more.

If you are a die-hard adventurer with a passion for getting lost in fields of mud, snow and sand, then the FJ Cruiser makes an excellent choice. Its V6 engine has more than enough power to slog through, up and over the worst Mother Nature can dish out, as well as tow up to 5,000 pounds. When equipped with 4-wheel drive (4WD), the FJ Cruiser uses a tried and true manually engaged 2-speed transfer case and a locking rear differential to get the job done.

 

FJ owners are a passionate group of individuals from daily commuters to the most hard core off road extremist.

Friends & Purpose

Although there are plenty of great websites that bring together this community of FJ owners, this site is to help build a more local community in Indiana and throughout the country.

 

There are no agendas nor expectations in coming here. Our only purpose is to bring people together.

Toyota has made good on its promise that the distinctive FJ Cruiser SUV would be a one-generation vehicle.

 

After an eight-year run, Toyota is pulling the plug on the vehicle, effective with a special edition for the 2014 model year.

 

The FJ Cruiser, derived from the 4Runner platform but with a shorter wheelbase and length, was developed as a no-compromises off-road vehicle that evoked the original FJ40 from the 1960s. It was a bold design statement for Toyota, including brash colors such as Smurf blue and school-bus yellow.

 

Initially, the niche vehicle was a mainstream success, selling more than 50,000 units in each of the first two years. But the recession came. Because Toyota never wanted to place incentives on the FJ, sales waned to between 10,000 and 15,000 units a year starting in 2009.

 

For the final year, in addition to a small run of stock FJ Cruisers, Toyota also will sell a 2014 Trail Teams Ultimate Edition FJ Cruiser.

 

The special edition will have a production run of 2,500 vehicles and come with Toyota Racing Development race shocks from Bilstein with increased damping, articulation and high-speed stability. Other items include a TRD aluminum front skid plate, TRD 16-inch bead-lock wheels with BF Goodrich A/T KO tires, rock rails and roof rack.

 

The Ultimate Edition is available only in four-wheel drive, with active traction control, defeatable vehicle skid control and an electronically controlled locking rear differential. Those who buy automatic transmission versions will also get Crawl Control, a feature that can keep the vehicle moving under control over rough terrain.

 

The special edition went on sale in February 2014. Pricing will fall between $33,000 and $40,000 due to limited availability.

The FJ Toyota Heritage

The Toyota Land Cruiser is a series of four-wheel drive vehicles produced by the Japanese car maker Toyota. The Land Cruiser series is the longest running series in Toyota history.

Production of the first generation Land Cruiser began in 1951 (90 units) as Toyota's version of a Jeep-like vehicle. The Land Cruiser has been produced in convertible, hardtop, station wagon, and utility truck versions. The Land Cruiser's reliability and longevity has led to huge popularity, especially in South Sudan and Australia where it is the best-selling body-on-frame, four-wheel drive vehicle. Toyota also extensively tests the Land Cruiser in the Australian outback — considered to be one of the toughest operating environments in both temperature and terrain.        

In 1953 regular production of the "Toyota Jeep BJ" began at Toyota Honsya Plant (Rolling chassis assembly), and body assembly and painting was done at Arakawa Bankin Kogyo KK, later known as ARACO (now an affiliate of Toyota Auto Body Co.). During this period the "Toyota Jeep BJ" Series was introduced. In 1954 The name "Land Cruiser" was created by the technical director Hanji Umehara. During this year the 3.9 L Type F gasoline engine was added and we know for the first time the "FJ-J" (Cowl-chassis for a fire-engine).
